My “No Shampoo” Hair Care Journey

🌿 My “No Shampoo” Hair Care Journey

After years of struggling with itchy scalp and stubborn dandruff, I decided to simplify — no more harsh shampoos, no more fragrance-laden products. Just water, intention, and time.

It’s been 2 months since I began this journey. My routine is simple:

  • Water-only washes
  • A weekly rinse of 50/50 organic apple cider vinegar and purified water
  • Regular brushing with natural tools like wood combs, bamboo brushes, and boar bristle

The results? My scalp is no longer inflamed, the dandruff is nearly gone, and my hair feels healthier and more balanced.

Lessons Learned & Tips

1. Hard Water Matters

Hard water can leave mineral buildup on your scalp, especially if you’re going “no poo.”
I use a shower filter to help minimize this — and I definitely notice when it’s time to change the filter.

2. Clean Your Brushes

You’re brushing out oils, skin cells, and buildup. Make time to:

  • Soak brushes in hot water
  • Let them fully dry
  • Occasionally add a few drops of essential oil — I use clove oil for its antimicrobial properties

Note: Clove oil is potent, so consider diluting it with a carrier oil like jojoba or argan if you’re applying it more directly (like brushing it onto the scalp).

3. Essential Oils & Skin Sensitivity

While indirect contact from your brush is mild, keep an eye out for any irritation — clove, in particular, is strong. If unsure, dilute or avoid applying too frequently.

🌿 Final Thoughts

This isn’t about perfection — it’s about reconnection. With our bodies, with the Earth, and with rhythms we’ve forgotten. My scalp is still adjusting, and I’m still learning, but this has been one of the most healing choices I’ve made for my hair.
